Chili is one of the perfect winter foods ever. It really warms up the body and just makes you feel good. And it is so simple to make that all most anyone could do it.
First brown a pound of hamburger then drain it very well. Place the hamburger in the crock pot, and add the following to it: a large can of chili beans, a large jar of tomato juice, a can of kidney beans that have been rinsed and drained, a few tablespoons of butter, half a large onion that has been diced, a can of tomato sauce, and some chili powder. I do not add lots of chili powder because you can always add more at the table.
Note that if you run out of chili powder a great substitute is red pepper flakes. I add about a tablespoon and it really fires my chili up.
Cook the chili for at least 6 hours on low. The last 45 minutes I add half a small bag of elbow noodles. I serve my chili with saltines with butter and extra chili powder. I have also added shredded cheddar cheese and this is a real treat.
